Queens DDC Parking Garage and Community Center
Island played a key role in the exterior façade construction of this landmark project, delivering high-quality craftsmanship and innovative solutions. The scope of work included:
- Exterior Cold-Formed Metal Framing (CFMF)
- Exterior waterproofing
- Fabrication and installation of Concrete Fiberglass Reinforced Concrete (CFRC) panels
This project was particularly challenging as it was the first design-build project for NYC DDC, requiring close coordination with two separate architectural firms and various NYC agencies.
Located behind Queens Borough Hall in Kew Gardens, the structure features:
- Parking for 600 vehicles
- 63 bike rack spots
- A two-level, 25,000-square-foot flexible community space
Emphasizing sustainability, the project incorporates:
- A partially planted green roof
- Electric vehicle charging stations
- Solar panels
- On-site stormwater retention
The community space portion of the project achieved LEED Gold certification for environmental sustainability, while the parking garage received Parksmart certification, recognizing its high-performance and eco-friendly design.
NYC DDC collaborated with Hunter Roberts Construction Group, Urban Architects, and Marvel Architects to bring this project to life.
